Barrie Benson:
Interior Designer
Epicurean
It takes real skill to flawlessly mix Louis XV Bergère chairs alongside Milo Baughman, something interior designer Barrie Benson does it perfectly.
Born in “a teeny town” near Norfolk, Virginia Barrie moved to Columbia, South Carolina as a teen and attended Furman University. After graduating with a BA in history and a minor in Art, she set off to Cortona, Italy to study abroad.
Barrie then received a BFA in Interior Design from the University of Georgia in Athens and returned to Cortona to teach a summer course. In her own words, “Heaven on Earth!” From Italy she moved to Atlanta and signed on with Hirsch Bedner Associates, a design firm specializing in hotel design. A few of her projects included the Park Hyatt in Mainz, Germany, the Park Hyatt in Hamburg, Germany and the Ritz Carlton in New Orleans.
In the fall of 1997 Barrie launched her own firm. A few notable projects include:
The residence of Laura Vinroot and Perry Poole; Capitol Clothing, Charlotte, North Carolina; The Poole Shop, Charlotte, North Carolina; The residence of Laura and Coy Monk, Charlotte, North Carolina; The apartment of Margaret Hynes, New York, NY.
